As I mentioned a while ago, it was my BIG aim to be one of the lucky individuals to get a hold of 2 out of 1300 remaining tickets for the Swiss Cup Finals! Now as it was published in the newspapers there were 30'000 people from Valais interested in going to that game, so I knew I wasn't the only one, who was ready to do almost anything to get such a ticket.- even if sales started at 6.30am!
Now extraordinary events need extraordinary measures: this meant for me getting up at 4 am. Already the evening before, when I arrived from Berne at 7pm, I saw the first people covered in Valaisanne flags, sitting on their sleeping bags, waiting with chips and beer in their hands, singing songs and getting ready for the long night. This gave me already an impression of what other people were ready to do....
Having seen this I changed my plan: originally I thought of being at the train station at around 5ish, but to be sure I thought, I better get up at 4am.
As I arrived there, I had the shock of my life: at least 200 people were already standing in line!!!- I couldn't believe it, it was 4.30am!
So the hours of waiting began. Not knowing anybody anybody else, I had to start making friends with the people around me - all of us had the same question: would there be enough tickets left for us? Doubts were omni present, but still: hope always dies last. Thus we kept waiting and hoping, waiting in a queue where people were pushed, pressed, squeezed, waiting in a queue where it was almost impossible to fall or to move, waiting in a queue where people farted and where a guy right next to me even took off his pants, as he didn't want to leave the queue to go to the toilet, since he feared his place would have been gone for good....-and all of this for some football tickets!
After 3 hours in this line, after watching other people celebrating their successful attempt of buying one of these precious pieces of paper, I could finally see the counter! And then, 3 meters or 25 people away at 7.25am the message came through that the tickets were sold out! :-( As you can imagine my disappointment was big! All this effort: in vain!
But even if this game will happen without me, I have no doubts that the FC Sion will leave the "Stade de Suisse" as winners on Easter Monday. Nous sommes the Valaisons and nous allons gagner, allez Sion!
